Skills Assessment Program

Ref-Chem offers NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) Assessments. The written craft assessments as well as performance verifications will allow testing of current and prospective employees to assess craft knowledge and hands on skill.

  • Eligibility of Participants
    • Minimum of four years industry experience or
    • Completed all levels of craft classes (NCCER Contren Training Program)
  • Frequency of Assessment
    • Eligible for re-test following a 48-hour waiting period
      • Initial assessment must be within 10 points of the cut score.
      • 30-day waiting period for all assessments less than 10 points of the cut score
      • No more than four times in a 12-month period for the same assessment
  • Failed Written Assessment
    • Assessments that don’t meet craft cut score set by NCCER will be directed to enroll in training classes

Craft Training

  • Entry level employees and craft helpers are encouraged to enroll in craft training classes available through CMEF (Construction & Maintenance Education Foundation) at local participating community colleges
  • Ref-Chem reimburses the costs of these training classes (must have a grade of C or better)
  • Upon completion of all levels of craft training, employees are allowed to take a written assessment
