TOPS IN SAFETY

Ref-Chem is committed first and foremost to a safe and healthy work environment. Our safety record is verified by the tables shown below. These records place Ref-Chem in the top echelon of engineering, construction and maintenance companies in the United States. To that end, we have trained our field management personnel in the recognition, avoidance and prevention of conditions that lead to accidents.

We provide essential safety training as prescribed in OSHA Process Safety management guidelines (29 CFR 1910.119), which includes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) training and HAZCOM training, both of which are conducted in-house. PPE and HAZCOM training are part of our new-hire orientation, which is required before any employee is allowed to work in the field. All employees are informed of their responsibilities and rights under OSHA Process Safety Management guidelines.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF OUR SAFETY PROCESS

  • In-house new hire orientation (HAZCOM, PPE, Lock-out/Tag-out, Ladders and Climbing)
  • Outside special safety training for all new hires when required
  • Formal Drug and Alcohol Abuse Policy
  • Drug Screen policy for all new hires, plus annual renewal
  • Drug Screen following "near misses," with cause and random
  • Full-time Safety Representative on all projects with over 30 personnel.
  • Regular site visits by senior executives
  • Weekly site safety meetings for project superintendents and general foremen
  • Daily "tool box" safety meetings for general foremen, craft foremen and crews
  • Daily site visits by our Safety & Loss Prevention Coordinator
  • Safety award program that includes all employees in the company based on quarterly results
  • Work steps program for pre-employment physical testing.

While we believe that safety is best achieved by means of positive reinforcement of correct behaviors and recognition and reward for superior results, we still deal firmly, timely and consistently with those who violate company safety policy, owner safety regulations or OSHA regulations. All Ref-Chem employees are subject to such disciplinary action as management deems appropriate. All such discipline is administered in a manner that ensures the achievement of our long-term goals of correction and improvement in performance.
